7th Annual Join the Pirate Crew: Jan. 27, 2024

Our Y10 (Charlie I., Charlie H., and James H.) and Y12 (Eli L., Gregory S., Greg H., Audrey I.) group with Tyler as a referee and Coach Annamaria. (Not pictured: Ruckus J., who also competed in Y12!)

We had so much fun this past weekend out at Buccaneer Blades Fencing in Wentzville! They hosted their 7th Annual Join the Pirate Crew tournament. Our fencers competed in 3 different events: Senior Mixed, Y10 Mixed, and Y 12 Mixed.

First Time Competitors

We only had two first time competitors this tournament:

  • Eli L., Y12 Mixed Saber

  • Copper P., Senior Mixed Saber

Taking the steps to compete for the first time is huge, and both did so well!

Podium after the Y12 Mixed Saber event: Gregory S. took first, Greg H. took second, and Eli L. tied for third!

Notable Results

These are our fencers who placed exceptionally well at the tournament. For full results, check out the results page on askFRED!

Fencer Shoutouts

Charlie I. showed both determination and resilience during his bouts.

Charlie H. was an excellent listener and took all coaching advice to heart during the tournament.

Ruckus J. brought the fun and enthusiasm he always does to class to the tournament.

Audrey I. looked like she was having fun the entire time and won her first DE!

Eli L. participated in his first ever tournament and ended up placing 3rd!

Greg H. matched Gregory S. point for point in the second half of their final DE.

James H. was Iceman during his bouts.

Both Caden B. and Copper P. stayed down and lunged while attacking - it was Caden B.’s best fencing in a senior tournament so far, and Copper P. took 6 out of 29 fencers in his first ever tournament!

Lillian S. had her best showing ever in a Senior Mixed event, with a +0 indicator after pools.

Finally, while not fencing, Tyler B. officially refereed and earned his L1 rating in saber!

Charlie H. receives his first ever medal in Y10 Mixed Saber.

Acknowledgements
